An online master’s degree can be worth it if you choose the right program and finish it. The value comes from three things: what you learn, the credential you earn, and the doors it opens.
Earnings data point in a positive direction. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported for 2025 that master’s degree holders earned a median of $1,876 per week, versus $1,578 for bachelor’s degree holders, with unemployment at 2.6% versus 2.8%. Results vary a lot by field, so treat these as averages, not promises.
Employers care most about accreditation and reputation. A 2023 Excelsior College and Zogby Analytics survey found that 83% of business leaders rate online degrees from well-known universities as equally valuable as on-campus degrees.
Check accreditation carefully. Continents International University, listed by the IACBE as The Continents States University of St. Louis, Missouri, was granted candidacy for IACBE business-program accreditation in July 2024, through July 31, 2029. Candidacy is not accreditation. Ask the school for its current status.
Tuition varies widely, so compare the full cost of each program with the aid you can get. The FAFSA is the standard first step for federal aid. Many employers also offer tuition help, so ask yours and check scholarship opportunities.
