Institution History

The Continents States University was conceived on August 1, 2015, when founder Dr. Ricky Madison established a non-degree postsecondary education institution to conduct a pilot program of the mission. The successful project earned the attention of United States Congresswoman Joyce Beatty and many other government officials, which automatically led to this institution’s founding.

The idea came after we noticed the differences in higher education. Transitioning away from seat time in favor of a structure that creates flexibility allows students to progress as they demonstrate mastery of academic content, regardless of time, place, or pace of learning. Therefore, we built competency-based strategies that provide flexibility to earn credit and provide students with personalized learning opportunities. These strategies include online and self-paced education, dual enrollment and early college high schools, project-based, community-based learning, and credit recovery.

To ensure the credibility of our education, we have earned full institutional accreditation from The Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges, and Universities. Also, we proudly seek specialized accreditation from the International Accreditation Council for Business Education.
